We Know Ourselves and Each Other

Montessori is an education for independence, preparing not just for school, but for life.

– Dr. Maria Montessori

At Parkside, we first strive to first know each child as a person, so that we can best know how to help bring forth the best in them.

We are committed to nurturing the whole child and believe that a child’s social and emotional development is every bit as important as their academic achievement. In fact, we’ve seen that when children are encouraged to live from their innate goodness and make choices from their compassionate hearts, it creates a safe and supportive environment where academic excellence naturally flourishes.
Kids Learning Outside

Social and emotional learning is the process through which we acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. This process is brought to life through the key Montessori tenets of “care of self,” “care of others,” and “care of environment” and the impact they have on the development of the child's interpersonal and social skills.

What this looks like at Parkside is our staff and community striving to help each child:

  • Develop self-awareness: Each child is unique and has their own strengths and challenges. We work with them to develop their awareness of who they are, how they learn, and how they can contribute to their community. offer multiple ways of giving the same lessons in order to match various learning styles. They also students become aware of who they are and how they learn.
  • Learn how to solve problems and resolve conflicts: Children as young as 3 years-old learn to identify and convey their feelings, and what they like or don’t like, in kind and thoughtful ways. We model and encourage practice in communicating effectively and respectfully with peers, and support the children in peacefully resolving conflicts as they arise.
  • Build confidence: We offer lessons and other opportunities for building and showcasing academic and creative skills, which lead to confidence, competence, and a desire for more challenges. Children also gain more confidence just by participating in our Montessori programs, as the older children become classroom leaders and assist and inspire the younger children.

“This school is warm, supportive, innovative and a wonderful place for little humans to grow into amazing, kind, and intelligent adults. The staff take pride in helping children become emotionally intelligent as well as independent life-long lovers of learning. The small school size, frequent communication, and community-oriented philosophy makes it feel like a family.”
