A Different Way of Looking at How Children Learn
Children are changing in today’s fast-paced world. There are more and more obstacles in their path of learning and development, and we are seeing the effect in the classroom and in our homes. Children of all ages are often overwhelmed by one or more of their senses interfering with their ability to move through the environment around them, disrupting their processing, impacting their engagement and connection with others, and at times, inhibiting cognitive learning. Sensory Processing skills are critical to learning and development, and it’s important for all of us to understand and support that connection.
This is a big topic in education right now, something our staff is continuing to learn about at every age level, and we want to include our parents in the larger discussion. We have invited Occupational Therapist, Tammy Santoro of From the Heart Therapy Services to facilitate this discussion and explain how our children’s cognitive learning is being affected by their senses. We all have sensitivities, with some more pronounced than others, and the more educated we are on the topic, the better partnership we can have in working toward’s your chid’s success.
The meeting is open to current and prospective Parkside families, and we hope to see many of you as we delve into this important topic.
