    Ghosts and Giving

It’s hard to believe the fall semester is nearing its end! Over recent weeks, we’ve been enjoying beautiful weather and special events on campus, some old and some new. The Elementary children once again presented two wonderful “living wax museums” for Ghosts of the Past, and we were all delighted and impressed with their work. We always leave having learned something and looking forward to next year. A few of the ghosts who stopped by were Beverly Cleary, George Washington, [...]

  • The 31st school year at Parkside is underway, and all systems are a go! We have welcomed back 97 children to our campus and to the open arms of our incredible guides, so the classrooms are humming with activity, and happiness abounds. As we begin the second year of pandemic-era operations, we see again the capability and flexibility of the children, and we feel the trust and support of our community. We know this makes a difference in our work [...]

    We Did It!

We planned, prepared, and then persevered through this Year of All Years, and learning, growing, and FUN happened in spite of it all! We are more grateful than ever for our Parkside community for the commitment, support, and trust it took to get to this point. And the children! What a marvel they are! In any moments of doubt or worry, they showed us over and over again what adaptability looks like, and we took advantage of the many opportunities [...]

  • In just 24 hours, 92 Parkside families and friends, past and present, pledged to Take Sweet Care of Parkside during Amplify Austin last week. With their gifts, and our $5000 match added to our total, we raised over $30,000! We could not do this work without your support, and we continue to be grateful for this incredibly giving community.

Many thanks again to: The Tomasetta Family; The Hooten Family; Kimberly Fountain; Amelia, Julian, Stacy, and Eric; Amy Lowrey; Bill and Kathy [...]

    Amplify Parkside

    Hello, Parkside Families and Friends.

I hope this message finds you well and recovering from the recent storms. Just when we thought we had a handle on life during a global pandemic, we were reminded once again how quickly things can change, and we were called upon to employ the attributes of Joe’s favorite Lao Tzu quote – humility, perseverance, and adaptability.

For nearly a year, we have all been swimming in uncharted waters, and at Parkside, our community, programs, and finances [...]

  • I realize this message comes sooner than our as-promised quarterly updates, but as is par for the course in 2020, our routines aren’t what they usually are, and we’re going with the flow. We just wrapped up one of our favorite Parkside events, and we have a few special days ahead as well, so I wanted to share this update before we all break for what we hope is a safe and peaceful holiday.

Last week, we celebrated the beloved tradition [...]

    Follow the Child

Well, it looks like we’re doing this – and so far, we’re doing it successfully! We began the school year online on August 19th, and we welcomed the children to campus on September 9th. They are happy to be back in their classrooms, safely working and playing with their classmates, and the teachers are able to safely attend to them in every way. We are reminded, once again, that it is often the adults who “get in the way” of [...]

  • First and foremost, we hope this message finds you and yours safe and healthy. We are thinking of our extended community often and wishing everyone well. Normally in this May edition, we would be sharing news and photos of the children celebrating end-of-school events like Science Fair, Field Day, Culural Challenge, and Gates of Life, but none of those things are happening this year or at least not in the way that we would prefer.

Our campus has been closed since [...]

“We loved the education our children received ... nurturing, loving, inspirational, disciplined, respectful, and challenging. We also enjoyed the sense of community and family that is always present.”
